E-cigarette use has grown dramatically over the last several years. It has been advertised as being a safe alternative to traditional cigarette smoking. However, research is showing that this is false advertising. E-cigarettes and vaping can be just as harmful to your health!
We know that e-cigarette smoking negatively effects your lungs, but it can also harm the oral cavity. Nicotine found in e-cigarettes can restrict blood flow to the gums. Restricted blood flow to the gums can result in periodontal disease and eventual tooth loss. Saliva production is also restricted from using e-cigarettes. This increases the risk of tooth decay. Tooth decay can be painful and lead to the need for fillings, crown, root canals, or even removal of the tooth/teeth. E-cigarettes can have a significant impact on oral health.
